Co-operative and Non-profit Housing

These programs provide modest, affordable housing for lower- and moderate income families, seniors and individuals. Co-operative housing is owned and managed by the resident members while non-profit housing projects are owned and managed by the non-profit sponsors.

Lone Parent Student Affordable Rental Housing

The Nova Scotia Department of Community Services is funding a limited number of affordable rental housing units for low-income single parents attending university.

Public Housing for Families

This program provides adequate, affordable rental housing to families in need.

Public Housing for Seniors

This program is designed to provide adequate, affordable rental housing to low income seniors (58 or over). Residents are charged rent based upon income.

Rent Supplement Program

This program provides financial assistance to low-income households to help them obtain suitable, safe, rental accommodation.

Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH)

Under the IAH, provinces and territories design and deliver affordable housing programs to address local housing needs and priorities. This may include housing programs for seniors and persons with disabilities. Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Yukon Territory have chosen to extend existing affordable housing delivery arrangements. As a result, in PEI and Yukon Territory, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) delivers assistance for accessibility modifications through the Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence (HASI) program and the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for Persons with Disabilities (RRAP-D).
