Guaranteed Annual Income System for Seniors

This system provides a monthly income supplement to seniors (aged 65 and over) who receive full or partial Old Age Security and/or Guaranteed Income Supplement benefits and whose income falls within provincial guidelines.

To be eligible, you must also be receiving

• Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
• Old Age Security (OAS)

• No application is necessary.
  
• If you meet the eligibility requirements, your benefits will be determined automatically.

Ontario Disability Support Program Income Support

This program helps people with disabilities who are in financial need pay for such living expenses as food and housing.

Ontario Works

If you are in temporary financial need, Ontario Works can provide you with money and help you find a job.

Allowance Program

Allowance is a monthly benefit for low-income seniors (aged 60-64) whose spouse or common-law partner is eligible for, or currently receiving, the Old Age Security (OAS) pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).

Additional Information

• Apply up to 12 months before your 60th birthday.
• If you have already reached the age of 60, send your application as soon as possible.
  

Employment Insurance Regular Benefits

Employment Insurance (EI) provides Regular Benefits to individuals who lose their jobs through no fault of their own (for example, due to shortage of work, seasonal or mass lay-offs) and are available for and able to work, but can't find a job.

Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits

Employment Insurance (EI) provides Sickness Benefits to individuals who are unable to work because of sickness, injury, or quarantine.

Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

This program provides a monthly non-taxable benefit to low-income Old Age Security recipients.

This program provides funding to First Nation communities to help their eligible members meet basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter.

Old Age Security (OAS)

This pension provides a monthly taxable benefit to persons 65 years of age and over.

War Veterans Allowance (WVA)

The War Veterans Allowance (WVA) provides monthly financial assistance to help low-income Veterans or their Survivors* meet their basic needs. The amount provided is based on income, marital status and if you have any dependants.
