International Benefits

The International Benefits program may provide retirement, disability or survivor benefits to eligible individuals who have lived or worked in another country, or the surviving spouse, common-law partner or children of eligible individuals who have lived or worked in another country.

Alberta Seniors Benefit (ASB)

This program provides a monthly cash benefit to low- and moderate-income seniors (aged 65 and over).

Old Age Security (OAS)

This pension provides a monthly taxable benefit to persons 65 years of age and over.

Allowance for the Survivor

This program provides a monthly non-taxable benefit to low-income widows who are not yet eligible for the Old Age Security pension.

Cottage Program

This program provides cottage accommodation for low-income senior citizens.

Seniors' Self-contained Housing Program

This program provides apartment type accommodation to low and moderate-income seniors who are functionally independent with or without the assistance of existing community based services.

Education Property Tax Assistance for Seniors Program

This program for seniors provides a rebate to assist senior homeowners with the year-to-year increases in the education portion of their property taxes.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Retirement Pension

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Retirement Pension provides a monthly taxable benefit to retired contributors.

Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

This program provides a monthly non-taxable benefit to low-income Old Age Security recipients.

Allowance Program

Allowance is a monthly benefit for low-income seniors (aged 60-64) whose spouse or common-law partner is eligible for, or currently receiving, the Old Age Security (OAS) pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).

Additional Information

• Apply up to 12 months before your 60th birthday.
• If you have already reached the age of 60, send your application as soon as possible.
