Aboriginal Head Start in Urban and Northern Communities

The Aboriginal Head Start in Urban and Northern Communities Program is a community-based children's program delivered by the Public Health Agency of Canada. It focuses on early childhood development for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and their families living off-reserve.

Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve

The Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve Program funds activities that support early intervention strategies to address the learning and developmental needs of young children living in First Nations communities. The goal is to support early child development strategies that are designed and controlled by communities.

Alberta Child Health Benefit

This program provides premium-free health benefits to children living in low-income families.

To be eligible, you must not be receiving

• Alberta Works - Alberta Adult Health Benefit
• Alberta Works - Income Support
• Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)

Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit

This tax-free benefit helps working families provide for their children.

Additional Information

• No application is required as applicants to the Canada Child Tax Benefit are automatically considered for the program.

Cadet Program

The Cadet Program gives youth the opportunity to develop leadership skills, increase their physical fitness and make new friends while enjoying a variety of fun and challenging activities.

Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB)

This benefit is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families with children under 18. It may include the National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS), a benefit for low-income families with children, and/or the Child Disability Benefit (CDB), a benefit for families caring for children with severe and prolonged disabilities.

Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG)

The Canada Education Savings Grant is a grant from the Government of Canada to help you start saving early for your child's education after high school.

Canada Learning Bond

The Canada Learning Bond provides a grant to families whose children are born in 2004 or later and who receive the National Child Benefit Supplement.

This program provides eligible caregivers with financial assistance.

Child Care for Children with Disabilities

This program provides support to children with special needs whose parents are either working or in school.

• To be eligible for this program, you must have a valid reason for child care as defined by the Child Care Subsidy Program.

Child Disability Benefit (CDB)

This program provides a non-taxable supplement to low- and moderate-income families to help them with the costs of raising children under 18 who have a severe and prolonged mental or physical impairment.

Child Rearing Drop-Out Provision (CRDP)

This program allows periods of low or zero Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contribution to be excluded from the calculation of CPP benefits when these periods are spent caring for a child under the age of seven.

Child Support Services

These services help parents get the legal agreements or court orders they need to obtain child support.

Children's Fitness Tax Credit

Early Childhood Services (ECS) and Special Needs

Children under six years of age who have a disability may be eligible for up to three years of early learning support under this program.

Elementary/Secondary Education Program

This program provides access for First Nations students to elementary or secondary schools, or services.

Employment Insurance Family Supplement

The Family Supplement is a feature of Employment Insurance (EI) that provides additional benefits to low-income families with children.

Employment Insurance Maternity and Parental Benefits

Employment Insurance (EI) provides Maternity and Parental Benefits to individuals who are pregnant, have recently given birth, are adopting a child, or are caring for a newborn.

Extended Hours Child Care Subsidy

Parents who work or attend classes during evenings or weekends may access extended hours subsidy up to $100 per month per child.

Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD)

This program provides supports and services to help strengthen a family's ability to promote their child's growth and development.

Junior Canadian Rangers Program

The Junior Canadian Rangers Program offers a variety of skill-developing activities that promote traditional cultures and lifestyles to youth living in remote and isolated communities.

Kin Child Care Funding Program

If you would like to pay relatives to care for your children, you may do so through the Kin Child Care program. Funding of up to $400 per month is available to eligible low- and middle-income families with children under the age of seven and not yet attending Grade 1, and $200 for school-age children (Grades 1-6).

New Alberta Birth Certificate

A new Alberta birth certificate is now available to order from registry offices throughout the province. The new birth certificate has numerous visible and concealed security features to help prevent identity theft.

Nobody's Perfect

This program provides parenting education and support for parents of children from birth to age five.

Stay-at-home parents support

Eligible families who have one parent who stays at home or works, volunteers or attends school less than 20 hours per week may qualify for a subsidy of up to $1,200 per year for each pre-school-aged child who attends a licensed pre-school or an approved early childhood development program

The Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan

This plan will contribute to the Registered Education Savings Plan of every child born to Alberta residents in 2005 and beyond. The program is designed to give parents an incentive to start planning and saving for their child's post-secondary education as early as possible.

Universal Child Care Benefit

The Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) provides financial assistance to all Canadian families with young children, regardless of where they live, whatever their family circumstances or preferences. Parents receive $100 a month for each child under six.
