Aboriginal Head Start in Urban and Northern Communities

The Aboriginal Head Start in Urban and Northern Communities Program is a community-based children's program delivered by the Public Health Agency of Canada. It focuses on early childhood development for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and their families living off-reserve.

Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve

The Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve Program funds activities that support early intervention strategies to address the learning and developmental needs of young children living in First Nations communities. The goal is to support early child development strategies that are designed and controlled by communities.

Employment Insurance Maternity and Parental Benefits

Employment Insurance (EI) provides Maternity and Parental Benefits to individuals who are pregnant, have recently given birth, are adopting a child, or are caring for a newborn.

Family Justice Services

Family Justice Services (FJS) offers a free service to any resident within the province who requires services of support application social workers, mediators or counsellors. The goal of FJS is to deal with family law issues, in a timely and fair manner, outside the court setting.

Family Resource Centres

These centres provide a variety of community-based activities and resources for children and families that emphasize early childhood development and parenting support. They provide a place for families to gather in a friendly and informal setting. A variety of programs are offered that reflect the needs of the families who are participating and the communities in which they are located. Types of programs might include everything from drop-in playgroups, Baby and Me groups, parenting workshops, clothing exchanges and toy-lending libraries to community kitchens and healthy lifestyle sessions.

Junior Canadian Rangers Program

The Junior Canadian Rangers Program offers a variety of skill-developing activities that promote traditional cultures and lifestyles to youth living in remote and isolated communities.

Mother Baby Nutrition Supplement

This is a monthly financial benefit for low income pregnant mothers and for families with children under the age of one; the applicant must be a permanent resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is intended to help with the cost of extra food during pregnancy and infancy.

Newfoundland and Labrador Child Benefit

This is a tax credit for low income families and determined by the number of dependent children under 18 years of age.

Nobody's Perfect

This program provides parenting education and support for parents of children from birth to age five.

Parental Benefits

This benefit provides a lump sum payment to residents of the province who give birth to a baby or have a child placed with them for adoption on or after January 1, 2008.

Special Child Welfare Allowance

This program provides a monthly allowance to help with the costs faced by families with a dependent child under age 18 who has a disability.

Universal Child Care Benefit

The Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) provides financial assistance to all Canadian families with young children, regardless of where they live, whatever their family circumstances or preferences. Parents receive $100 a month for each child under six.
